REST API Client
Send HTTP, GraphQL and WebSocket requests with environments, collections and history.
Send a request
- Run DevSnip Pro: REST API Client from the Command Palette, or click it in the sidebar.
- Choose the method, type the URL and press Enter or click Send.
- Read the response: status, time and size, formatted JSON you can search, headers and cookies. Copy or save it from the toolbar.
TipPaste a cURL command (for example from your browserβs dev tools, Copy as cURL) into the URL bar: the method, headers and body are imported.
Use environments instead of hard-coded hosts and tokens
Create an environment per target, such as local and staging, with variables like baseUrl and token. Reference them with {{name}} anywhere in the request, then switch environments to run the same request against another server.
GET {{baseUrl}}/users/42
Authorization: Bearer {{token}}Authentication
Pick Bearer, Basic or API key on the Auth tab. An OAuth 2.0 token helper is available as an advanced tool.
Collections and history
- Save requests into collections, grouped in folders that mirror your API (
auth/,users/,billing/). Collections are unlimited and stored locally. - History keeps every request you sent; credential-looking URL values are redacted and API keys are never written to history.
Test a GraphQL API
- Switch the protocol from HTTP to GraphQL (next to the request name). The Body tab becomes a Query tab.
- Set the method to POST and enter the endpoint, such as
{{baseUrl}}/.graphql - Write the query, add Variables (JSON) and, if the document has several operations, an Operation name.
- Press Ctrl/Cmd+Enter or Send, then check both
dataanderrorsin the response.
query GetCountry($code: ID!) {
country(code: $code) {
name
capital
}
}Turn requests into code
- Generate code for JavaScript (fetch, Axios), Python, Go, Java or C#.
- Export as cURL for a README or a bug report.
- Get types from a response with JSON to Types (TypeScript, Zod, Pydantic, Go, Kotlin, Swift and more).
Call AI providers
Ready-made request shapes for OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Azure OpenAI, Ollama and any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Send a prompt, stream the reply and validate it against a schema; your API key is used for the request and never stored.
Advanced tools
Assertions, request chaining, batch performance runs, response comparison, mock servers, WebSocket, the OAuth 2.0 helper and typed SDK export cost 8β35 points per successful run. Points are earned by using the extension β see Points, milestones & themes.
NoteRequests time out after devsnip. (30 s by default). A per-request timeout set in the client overrides it, and Cancel stops a request early.
