CSV & Excel viewer
A CSV and Excel viewer and editor for VS Code
Test fixtures, exports and seed data are easier to read as a table than as comma-separated text. DevSnip Pro opens CSV, TSV and Excel files as a grid inside VS Code, and lets you edit them without reformatting the rows you did not touch.
On this page 6 sections
What the viewer does
- Every sheet of a workbook, with dates, times, percentages, currencies and number formats shown the way Excel shows them, and formulas next to their values.
- Search, sort and filter hundreds of thousands of rows. The separator and encoding of a CSV are detected for you.
- Column stats (filled, empty, distinct, min, max, sum, average), and Excel-style sum and average for a selection.
- Export what you see as CSV, JSON or a Markdown table, or copy cells straight into Excel.
Edit without breaking the file
Press Edit, then click a cell to change it, type over it, paste from Excel, or right-click to insert and delete rows and columns. New columns are named as you add them. Save with Ctrl/Cmd+S; undo works as in any editor.
Rows you did not touch are saved exactly as they were. In workbooks, every untouched cell, style, chart and macro is kept.
Open a file
- Excel (.xlsx): click the file in the Explorer; it opens in the viewer.
- CSV or TSV: right-click the file and choose Open in CSV & Excel Viewer, use the table button in the editor title bar, or choose Open With….
Limits

Questions
- Does editing a CSV change rows I did not edit?
- No. Untouched rows are written back exactly as they were, including their quoting.
- Can I turn a CSV into JSON?
- Yes. Filter or sort the grid if you need to, then export what you see as JSON, CSV or a Markdown table.
