Docker, Kubernetes, CI and Terraform config, generated in VS Code

Start deployment config from output that is checked, not from a blog post's snippet. The generators cover Node.js, Python, Go, Java and .NET, and the extension's test suite parses the YAML and JSON they produce and validates Compose files with docker compose config.

Containers

  • Dockerfile Generator & Linter: a small, secure multi-stage Dockerfile for the stack it detects in your workspace, or a check of the Dockerfile you already have.
  • Docker Compose Generator & Validator.
  • docker run → Compose: turns one or more docker run commands from a README into compose.yaml — ports, environment, volumes, networks, restart policy, health checks, resources and GPUs.

Example: docker run to Compose

docker run
docker run -d --name db -p 5432:5432 \
  -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=secret -e POSTGRES_DB=app \
  -v pgdata:/var/lib/postgresql/data \
  --restart unless-stopped \
  --health-cmd "pg_isready -U postgres" --health-interval 10s \
  postgres:16-alpine
compose.yaml
services:
  db:
    image: postgres:16-alpine
    container_name: db
    ports:
      - "5432:5432"
    environment:
      - POSTGRES_PASSWORD=secret
      - POSTGRES_DB=app
    volumes:
      - pgdata:/var/lib/postgresql/data
    restart: unless-stopped
    healthcheck:
      test:
        - CMD-SHELL
        - pg_isready -U postgres
      interval: 10s
volumes:
  pgdata:

It also warns that the password is inline and suggests moving it to an .env file referenced as ${VAR}. The docker run to Compose guide explains each mapping.

Kubernetes, CI and cloud

  • Kubernetes & Helm: a Deployment, Service, Ingress, HPA and PodDisruptionBudget — or a Helm chart — from a few settings, or validation of existing manifests.
  • CI Pipeline Generator: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI and CodeQL, and a Cloud Deploy Workflow.
  • Terraform Starter, Nginx Config Generator and PM2 Ecosystem Generator.
  • Health Check Endpoints and an Observability Starter.

Config and schedules

  • .env Checker & Generator: syntax errors, duplicates, placeholders and invalid ports or URLs; a comparison with .env.example; variables your code reads but never declares; and a generated .env.example.
  • Cron Expression Helper: a cron schedule in plain English with its next run times, and notes for crontab, GitHub Actions and Kubernetes.
  • Git Command Recipes, .gitignore Generator and Semver & App Versions for the release side.

Before you ship, the Security Hub's Cloud & Container Audit checks Terraform, Kubernetes, Compose files, Dockerfiles and GitHub Actions for risky settings.

Questions

Which stacks do the generators support?
Node.js, Python, Go, Java and .NET (including ASP.NET Core) for Dockerfiles, CI pipelines and health checks.
Is the generated YAML valid?
The extension's test suite parses generated YAML and JSON, compiles TypeScript and JavaScript, byte-compiles Python and runs docker compose config on Compose files. Review it for your environment before deploying.
